Knowledge and Experience Meet

Trish Lethbridge

Our award-winning laser technician

Trish is the salon owner of Tattoo Removal Toowoomba by Skin Sensations. Trish has been a practising Skin Revision, Dermal & Beauty Therapist and a salon owner for over 30 years. She has been using Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and laser for over 20 years and is one of the original operators in Toowoomba. She was one of the first salon owners to open in a busy shopping centre in Brisbane in 1988 and has always been an innovator and a motivator. She started her working career as a Dental Nurse and worked in that field for ten years, before changing to aesthetics. The years spent in dental surgeries acquainted her with proper clinical practices, proper charting and high standards of hygiene. These skills have been carried with her into her beauty career.

Introducing Intense Pulse Light (IPL) into Skin Sensations over 20 years ago in Toowoomba she quickly realised how fast and effectively, superior results, (especially in Age Management and long term hair removal) could be achieved. Skin Sensations quickly became known as "The Place" to have IPL treatments done.

Customers are often recommended by medical professionals and we've had other IPL technicians from other practices actually coming to Skin Sensations Toowoomba for their own treatments! Laser light therapy was the next obvious choice.

Trish always wants the “WOW” factor for her clients. Or another way of putting it is that she always wants to exceed her client’s expectations and she knows that to do this, constant evolution of Skin Sensations and more importantly her own education is essential.

With the arrival of her new Medlite C6 Q - switch laser, another Skin Sensations milestone has been reached, the Medlite C6 being the gold standard for laser tattoo removal in Australia and throughout the world.

What qualifications and how much experience does the Laser Technicians have?

Trish is a Laser Technicians with all necessary Queensland Radiation qualifications plus another 8 years of Laser Tattoo removal in the clinic. Over 30 years in the industry.

How many treatments does it require?

There are a lot of factors to consider when giving an estimate of how many treatments it will take to remove the tattoo. The amount of ink that was injected into the skin. What colour the ink is, what type of ink, the location of the tattoo, the age.  When you come in for a consultation Trish can look at your tattoo and review all of this with you.

How often do I come back for treatments?

The minimum time between treatments is 6 weeks.

Who can't have it done?

If you are breastfeeding or pregnant, taking medication that causes light sensitivity or generally unwell.

Do I need to book an appointment?

Yes, Trish only works by appointment, it is necessary to make an appointment even for a consultation.

Do I need to pay a deposit?

Yes, a $50 deposit is required for all appointments booked, it is transferred over to your next booking.

What is your cancellation policy?

48 working hours notice is required to cancel the booking. If you have a confirmed booking and don't show up to a confirmed booking we will take the $50 deposit to cover costs or one-off the prepaid course. You will need to repay another $50 to secure the next booking if on a course or a single treatment.

If I miss an appointment and I'm on a course what happens then?

If you give 48 working hours notice to cancel a booking nothing happens, simply reschedule the appointment. If no notice is given you will forfeit your $50.00 deposit or one of the prepaid treatments.

What are the limitations after treatment, any downtime?

Icing the area is essential to ensure the skin heals well. You can go about your normal routine but avoid sun exposure. Limit the amount of physical activity that you do in the first 24. Showers can be taken but only if they are lukewarm and you use mild soap. There isn't any downtime as such. The sting goes away quickly.

What does the skin look like after the treatment & how do I look after it?

The skin will be red, swollen & puffy and it can also have blood blanching. This is all normal though you must ice the area and use our soothing gel at least 3-6 times per day after the treatment. This will prevent blistering. Blistering is common with advanced treatments. ICE ICE ICE

Does the laser cause scarring?

Most of the time no, but 99% of avoiding scarring is being compliant with aftercare instructions and is your responsibility. If you are not compliant with aftercare instructions and develop a blister it could cause scarring. If you already have a scar under the tattoo it will still be there when the tattoo is removed. If there is a lot of ink and the tattoo is raised above the skin surface the skin may remain raised but without the ink colour.

Does it hurt? What should I expect it to feel like?

This tattoo removal procedure is more uncomfortable than getting a tattoo. However, it is very fast, over and done quickly with one of the best laser tattoo removal machines. Most treatments take between 25-60 seconds depends on the size of the area.  We use a localised chilled air cooling treatment with a continuous flow of chilled air before, during and after your laser session, in an effort to minimise discomfort. Some clients like to get numbing cream and apply it 30-60 mins before the treatment. This can be sourced from your local pharmacist.

Will I blister and scab afterwards?

To prevent any blisters please use a cube of ice 3-6 times on the day of the treatment and the prescribed gel. We try to avoid blisters and scabs but they can happen and are normal. You should not pop or pick at them. If it is bothering you feel free to call us at 0499383821 If the blister pops on its own, keep the skin clean to avoid getting an infection and follow strictly the aftercare instructions

Can I lighten the tattoo to have another one put on top?

Yes, depending on the colours of the tattoo. Very dark tattoos with lots of ink on the skin will require more treatments. They are sold singerly or a course of 4. Check with the tattoo artist in-between appointments to see if it is light enough to apply the new tattoo over the top. You should wait for a minimum of six weeks between your last treatment and when you apply the new tattoo.  qualifications certificates diploma

Can someone come in the room with me while I'm having treatment done?

Yes, we have safety glasses that can be worn, but preferably only one person having the removal in the treatment room. I have a comfortable waiting room that your guests can sit in.

How old do I have to be to have tattoo removal done?

There isn't an age restriction, however, if the client is under 18 years of age we will need a parent or guardian to be present.

Will the tattoo become lighter with one treatment?

Yes, there will be fading and lightening of the colour, even if it is black the colour fades to a brown and so on, after just one treatment. If a  tattoo has a lot of ink it can take a few treatments to see it flatten, after that it should fade quickly.

If the tattoo looks healed can I come in before six weeks?

It takes four weeks for the body to start breaking down the ink after treatment and even though the tattoo may appear healed, it is not.

Can I have just a piece of the tattoo removed?

Yes, Trish, the technician is experienced and our tattoo removal machine is accurate so we can remove unwanted parts of tattoos.

I have permanent make-up (lip liner, eyeliner, eyebrows). Can you remove it?

Yes, Trish can remove it. It has a separate pricing structure

I got my tattoo one week ago. Can I have it removed right now?

Unfortunately no. You must wait six to eight weeks after a tattoo has been put on to start the laser tattoo removal process.

Can multi-colored tattoos be removed fully?

In most situations yes, but not always.

How does ink type impact tattoo removal?

Amateur and homemade inks can be easier to remove. Amateur tattoo artistry often means that the ink is not as deep as a professionally trained artist. There are also a variety of inks that professionals use that can make the removal process more difficult. All tattoos are very much individually put on. It is very difficult by just looking at the tattoo without a treatment to say for certain how many treatments it will take to remove.

Why do some peoples tattoos disappear faster than others?

There are many factors that go into the number of sessions an individual needs to remove a tattoo. Because inks, depth of ink penetration and skin type vary, so does the number of sessions needed. The skin is one of the body’s largest organs. Healthy organs are more resilient. A patient’s level of hydration, the strength of the immune system and overall health are also factors. The age of the tattoo is a factor.

Fading & Custom Tattoo Removal

Do you have a tattoo you love, but only want to remove part of it or fade it so you can apply another tattoo over it? We do precision partial tattoo removal and fading to prepare your canvas for a new tattoo.

How does it work

A laser is designed to produce one or more specific wavelengths of light in short bursts when you direct this laser beam at tattoo ink, the light passes through the skin but is absorbed by the ink. The rapid absorption of light energy causes the tattoo ink to break into tiny particles that are then removed by the body’s natural filtering and immune systems – that’s right! You excrete your tattoo from your body.

After the first laser tattoo removal treatments, you'll notice a temporary whitening of the treated area. Over time, the tattoo will fade and the skin returns to its normal colour.
